Dance

The Dance Program at East High will provide the highest quality instruction in dance to allow our students to grow into technically strong, confident, well-rounded, respected and appreciative dancers. We will build self-confidence and self-esteem, and learn skills that cross over into all aspects of life and growth into young adulthood.

In the East Dance Company, dancers are trained from a fusion lens, which means dancers will be exposed to multiple dance genres and forms and explore several interdisciplinary perspectives.  The dance curriculum will include coursework in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, swing, world dance influences, and multiple fusions. Students will explore character development, dance history, composition of choreography, and improvisation.  Students will have multiple opportunities to create their own work and take on leadership roles such as becoming a member of the East High School Dance Council or as Student Directors or Student Choreographer Leads.

The coursework is specifically designed to enhance the dancer’s individual talents and abilities. We provide several performance opportunities for our dancers.  East Dance Company also has the opportunity to attend dance workshops and frequent exposure field trips. Being a member of the East Dance Company will not only enhance your professional dance and performance skills, but also dig deeply into how we can use arts as a tool to impact audiences

Dance Program/Company Levels and Descriptions

There are two levels of involvement when dancing at East High School.  You can choose to be a part of the program, or the company. In order to be a part of the company, you must audition and meet certain criteria before being placed in the appropriate level.  Leveling classes allows students to work towards their full potential in a progressive training program and be a part of an ensemble that moves well together as a whole. Students will gain strength, flexibility, and independence as they safely move through the sequential program levels, challenging their bodies as it becomes ready to be pushed further.
