East Dance Company Audition Information is now LIVE on https://east.dpsk12.org/dance/!  Audition video requirements for the East Dance Company Classes can be found in the EDC Remote AuditionPacket.  Audition applications and audition videos should be submitted to the director, Ms. Paige Farlow-Wiltgen at paige_farlow@dpsk12.net by May 22nd to be considered for placement in the company classes (Dance 2, Dance 3, and Dance 4).

Feel free to reference the EDC Information Packet for more information about the East Dance Company!  Please note that this is not an extracurricular audition. This is a class that students receive fine arts or gym credit for and takes place during their school day! The East Dance Company welcomes dancers from all backgrounds, and with all forms of experience. We welcome students who are new to dancing and want to learn!  Don’t let lack of professional training or experience deter you from auditioning!

In the East Dance Company, dancers are trained from a fusion lens, which means dancers will be exposed to multiple dance genres and forms and explore several interdisciplinary perspectives. The dance curriculum will include coursework in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, lyrical, swing, world dance influences, and multiple fusions. Students will explore character development, dance history, the composition of choreography, and improvisation. Students will have multiple opportunities to create their own work and take on leadership roles such as becoming a member of the East High School Dance Council or as Student Directors or Student Choreographer Leads.

Student voice is highly valued in the EDC and students have a great deal of input in the planning, creation, and themes of our productions. Each year, the students of East Dance Company have the opportunity to choreograph, audition, cast, and teach their own work for our annual student-produced showcase, “Coffee House.” Last year as a company, we developed and designed a show titled, “Dear Society, Testimonies of a Teenager” about the pressures that teenagers are currently facing. We also jump at any opportunity to play with character development and love producing whimsical shows such as “Twisted,” our eerie evening at the circus. We enjoy transforming spaces into new venues and experimenting with technology to enhance the audience’s experience. Next year, we will finally get the opportunity to share our modernized twist on the traditional story, “The Wizard of Oz” that was unfortunately canceled because of the current pandemic.

We look forward to seeing your audition videos and dancing with you!
