Thank you for your patience in regard to the Denver East schedule planning toward the Second Quarter of this school year.

In alignment with direction from the Denver Public Schools administration and in partnership with the DPS Health and Nursing Department and Denver Health, Denver East High School will implement a hybrid schedule for students during the 2nd Quarter of this school year.

This means that during the week of October 19th, we will begin to bring students into the school building for a part of their school schedule.

The same basic schedule that has been used for remote learning will be used for the hybrid schedule.  Our Angels have an advantage moving into the second quarter, as they will have completed up four classes of the seven that are available as a part of the semester schedule.  For the Second Quarter, most students will have up to three classes.

While we will send you more information as we progress toward the transition to 2nd Quarter, here are some basic notes regarding the hybrid schedule that will be used:

  • The hybrid schedule will begin with four class periods on the schedule (again most students will have three classes during this quarter)
    • Periods “1 and 2” will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Mondays and Wednesdays will be the two “in-person” days for students
      • As with the current on-line programming only half of the students assigned to a class will be present in the classroom with the teacher at a time  (8-15 students)
    • Periods “3 and 4” will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will be fully remote until further notice
    • Fridays will be reserved for student and teacher conferencing and tutorial sessions with teachers
  • Students who currently have synchronous classes in the morning will have in-person classes in the morning in the  hybrid schedule (asynchronous time in the afternoon)
    • Morning “A” Schedule:   Period 1a –  8:00-9:30 a.m.    Period 2a – 9:35-11:05
  • Students who currently have synchronous classes in the afternoon will have in-person classes in the afternoon in the  hybrid schedule (asynchronous time in the afternoon)
    • Afternoon “B” Schedule:   Period 2b – 12:25-1:55     Per 2b – 2:00-3:30
  • Class sizes will generally be between 8 and 15 students and all present will be required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing
  • The typical in-person student experience for a student will include:
    • Entering the school building through an assigned door closest to their period 1 classroom
    • Going directly to the period 1 classroom for 90 minutes of instruction
    • Transitioning through one-way hallways to their 90 minute period 2 class
    • Leaving school through the exterior door closest to their classroom and leaving school grounds to prepare for their scheduled asynchronous work time at home
    • Students will be required to leave the school the school campus immediately after their class has ended
    • Students will have access to breakfast and lunch as a “pick-up” opportunity from our Food and Nutritions staff
  • Asynchronous time for every student will continue to be in every student’s schedule.  This independent time is “opposite” synchronous and in-person time every day, allowing students the time they need to complete assignments

Health and Safety:

  • In partnership with the Denver Public Schools Department of Nursing and Student Health Services and the Superintendent’s Office, representatives of Denver Health have acknowledged that the hybrid model being implemented fully complies with their requirements for safety health practices at school sites
  • We will ensure that related health requirements will be fully in place for our students and staff members
  • Students, teachers, and anyone present in the school building will be required to complete a daily health screening, as directed by and required by DPS, prior to entering the school building
  • Students, teachers, and anyone present in the school building will be required to socially distance and wear masks while in the building
  • Sufficient  amounts of Personal Protective Equipment, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes and other health-related equipment will be available to students and staff members

Regarding the In-Person or 100% Virtual School option:  If you are satisfied with the option that you have already chosen related to In-Person or 100% Virtual School, there is nothing further that you need to do.  If you would like to change your selection, you may do so until Monday, September 28th, in the DPS Parent Portal.

We are looking forward to providing in-person learning opportunities for our Angels.  Again, we will provide you with more information as we move toward the 2nd Quarter.  In the meantime, and as always,  let me know if you have any questions that I can answer for you.
