“The Denver East Angels football program is experiencing newfound success under head coach Stephen Ruempolhamer. Last year, under Coach Ruempolhamer, the Angels advanced to the second round of the playoffs, and notched a historic upset victory over Mullen.
Now, Coach Ruempolhamer has Denver East rolling. With a pair of shutout victories in the team’s 3-0 start to this season, Ruempolhamer is being honored as this week’s Denver Broncos Tackle Football Coach of the Week.
Throughout the season, there will be a Broncos Coach of the Week named each week for flag football and for tackle football. Then, at every Broncos home game this season, during a pregame, on-field recognition ceremony, the Denver Broncos will celebrate a group of the Coach of the Week honorees.”

Why do you coach high school sports?
I coach the way I coach to help kids reach their potential in football. I’m looking to be the middleground to help connect kids with their dreams, teaching them to set goals, and making their dreams a true lifestyle.
Why do you coach the way you coach?
When kids trust me to help make their dream a reality, I have to make sure I tell the truth about life, effort, opportunities, and obstacles they might encounter. Ideally, I do not lie to get the message across and I always strive to give all players the same amount of love and care, regardless of grade level or background.
What is a lesson you try to teach your athletes?
I try to teach my players that high character will help them become a champion in the classroom, in competitive sports, and owning their career in the long run.
How would your players describe your coaching philosophy?
I think they would describe me as intense with accountability, while also being firm, fair and consistent.
What have you learned from coaching?
I have learned that each kid is different and all kids have big dreams. I have to help shape their mindset to accomplish their greatness within themself.
What has been your favorite memory of coaching at Denver East?
My favorite memory so far is beating Mullen in the playoffs of 2023, marking the first time a DPS school beat a private school in football. It was also the first time winning in the first round for Denver East Football.
What are you most proud of so far this season?
I am most proud of the growth the players have made due to their increase in commitment this season.
What has been the key to your team’s success this season?
The key to our 3-0 start has been the players’ commitment to each other and how much their unselfishness has grown.
What is your goal for the remainder of this season?
Our goal from here on is to go 1-0 for each of our remaining games.
