Aug. 15th, 2022– Last Monday, East High School Senior, Sydney O’Donnell attended Fall Sports High School Media Day hosted by CHSAA and the Denver Broncos. The 4th annual Fall Sports Media Day kicked off at 8:30a.m., and over 100 high school athletes from all over the state came to Empower Field to gain some insights into the world of athletics and media relations.

During the two hour event, student athletes rotated through four stations: Media Relations 101 with a member of the Broncos PR staff, a tour of Empower Field’s media staging areas, a mock podium press conference, and a professional photoshoot. This crash course was created to give high school athletes the opportunity to interact with the media and jumpstart their professional media relations skill sets.

Sydney is about to begin her second cheer season at East and hopes to cheer in college. At the end of the day, we had the chance to conduct a brief Q&A with her:

EHS: What was one thing you heard or learned today that you think will benefit you the most in your cheer career?

O’Donnell: Today I understood how big cheer is becoming and how it is becoming more recognized and appreciated in the sports world; it definitely motivated me to guarantee our team is the strongest it can be this year.

EHS: What was your favorite part of the day?

O’Donnell: My favorite part of today was definitely seeing all the different types of people from different sports come together with one commonality: we all love our sport.

EHS: What got you into cheer and how long have you been doing it?

O’Donnell: I have always wanted to do cheer and cheering at East was my first opportunity to try it. I fell in love with the sport very fast. I am coming up on two years of cheer.

EHS: What are some of your cheer goals?

O’Donnell: My ultimate goal is to cheer in college. This year specifically I am hoping to hit some difficult stunts and advance my tumbling skills.

EHS: What has your cheer experience at East been like?

O’Donnell: Cheering at East has been so much fun. The energy of my team at competitions and games is unbeatable. I am so excited for this year.
