Dear East Angels Community, I want to give my sincere congratulations to our East Unified Club for being the first Unified National Banner winner in the district. A Special Olympics Unified Champion School has an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff. Thank you Liz Curran, Meghan Ireland, Sean McCarthy and Ryan Short for your exceptional work with Special Olympics Unified Sports!

Bess Screener

On Thursday 9/28, all advisement classes (9th-12th) participated in the BESS (Behavioral and Emotional Screening System). If your child was absent during their advisement class this week, please have them complete the screener by scanning the QR code,

or clicking the BESS link in their schoology. 

Student ID Policy

All students are required to have an ID to enter. If a student doesn’t have an ID, they will need to wait in line at the front security desk for one to be printed. Please NOTE that all re-printed IDs are $5 and the charge will be added to the student’s account. 

Picture retakes are October 10th. This will be the last opportunity to get your students’ pictures taken. If you would like to order pictures go to mylifetouch.com the Picture ID is EVTRRZ4KF

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCE INFO:

Parent teacher conferences will be on Monday, Oct 9 and Tuesday, Oct 10 from 4:00 – 8:00 each night. We are offering East families the opportunity to meet with teachers in person. Please use the link below to schedule appointments with your students’ teachers.

The English and Spanish versions of the ’23-’24 DPS Career Guide are here! Please use them to give yourself a comprehensive overview of the career readiness services your student has access to at East. Remember, your student can connect with Ellie Jacques, eleanor_jacques@dpsk12.net, and other career services by joining the East High School Career Center on Schoology, using the code: XXKF-RG67-QNFH3. You and your student can also review a complete list of Career Ready Action Items. You might consider focusing on one career action per month or one per “season” with your student to help them start to plan their future.

The official date of graduation is May 21, 2024 at 4PM at the Denver Coliseum. 

 Counseling Update

October 17th Free App Day – All day (except lunch) in the commons: The counseling team would like to invite all of our senior students to the Colorado Free App Day at East on October 17th.  On this day (and through the 19th), the majority of Colorado colleges and universities will be allowing students to submit their admission application for FREE. This is a big deal and we want as many students to participate as possible.  Parents/guardians, please remind your students to take advantage of the free college app days. College Fair Update:

Thank you to everyone who attended the College Fair! This was an amazing night with 481 students registering and connecting with college admission reps. Our Angels are doing amazing things!

Free Experience Dyslexia Simulation: October 8, 2023, 10:30 am -12:30 pm. 3239 E 2nd Ave, Denver, CO 80206

In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, DenCoKID is excited to be able to offer a free simulation to the Denver community. Participants will experience some of the challenges and frustrations faced by people with attention, processing, and language-based learning differences. Participants are guided through learning tasks commonly encountered in the classroom or workplace. This empathy-building experience benefits everyone, including parents, guardians, grandparents, caregivers, educators, principals, students, coaches, employers, clergy, and anyone with an interest in dyslexia or learning differences. Light refreshments will be provided and childcare for school-aged children is available upon request via email. Space is limited so RSVP today!

Share Multilingual Learners Tutoring Program

Are you interested in helping Multilingual Learners (MLLs) succeed on their language-learning journey? The Multilingual Education Department’s Tutoring Program for MLLs is back and will run from October 2023 to June 2024. LatinX Heritage Month: Federally designated as Hispanic Heritage Month in 1988, is observed from September 15th to October 15th by celebrating the rich historical and cultural legacies of individuals whose ancestors came from the Caribbean, Central and South America, Spain, and Mexico.

The boys2MEN Fall Workshop

The boys2MEN Fall Workshop; College & Life Readiness, is designed for Young Kings to architect a clear vision from High School to College. Young Kings will be exposed to the skills and requirements it takes to persist as a scholar on the college level. This workshop involves diversity offices from campuses across the state to curate lifelong connections between Young Kings and communal support on college campuses. 

Young Kings will engage in Life Readiness courses during the first part of the day, then directly with college recruiters to learn about admission requirements and campus life.

The workshop is Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM.

Athletics Update:

Congratulations to Girls Volleyball player Bronwyn Rowse who has been selected as Athlete of the Week! She has led the team to four straight victories over the last week, leading the team in Aces, Kills, & Passer Rating. Great Job Bronwyn, keep it up!!

This month’s meeting will be all about Family Mental Health. We will have a special presentation on Trauma Informed Care by Dr. Omar Reda who will be discussing immigrant family trauma. He will also have resources for those who work with families.  

Other community partners will also host resource tables with valuable mental and general health information for families and community members.

Screening of Screenagers Under the Influence presented by Denver North High School

October 4th at 6:00pm at North High School Auditorium Following the screening, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and share reflections with three community experts in the fields of technology, public health, and medicine. The event is open to the wider DPS and local community. Food will be provided and there will be a giveaway.

Unified Spirit Week

Our East Unified club would like to invite all of you to attend the 3rd Annual East Unified Walk-a-Thon, which is on Friday, October 6th during 4th period out on the track.  This event is a time for our whole school to come together and promote inclusion and unity for ALL students.  Here is a video from a previous Walk-A-Thon to get you in the spirit!! Yearbook & Senior Photo information

Senior photos are due November 1st. All photos must meet these guidelines:

All Seniors must select their yearbook photo by taking the following guidelines into consideration or risk their photo not being published:

  • ALL SENIOR PHOTOS MUST BE VERTICAL
  • The photo should have a clear view of the student’s face
  • The student should be sitting or standing
  • Avoid clothing that is see-through and avoid having underwear showing
  • Avoid props (this includes sunglasses, hats, and animals)
  • No writing on the photo, including name or graduation year 
  • Image or clothing must not contain language or symbols that are sexually explicit, promote illegal activity, contain profanity, or symbols of racist or homophobic sentiment
  • All images will be subject to approval by East Angelus staff

Cabaret

Dear East Community, 

The East Choir Department is proud to present our first choir performance of the year!

Our annual Cabaret Concert will be held Friday (10/6) @ 7:00 PM and Saturday (10/7) @ 4:00PM in the Auditorium! This year, we are featuring music from Broadway Musicals and Jazz Standards. You’ll hear solos, small group, and full choir songs from familiar shows such as: Hairspray, The Color Purple, Greatest Showman, Legally Blonde, and much more!

Even if you don’t have a student in Choir, we sincerely hope you will join us for a night of fantastic performances and community supporting the Arts at East. This performance is not to be missed! Tickets can be purchased HERE. Thanks for your support!

East Angels Friends & Family (EAFAF)

The “Halo Hello!” events are organized by EAFAF (East Angels Friends & Alumni Foundation, https://eastangelfriends.org/).  This organization funds college scholarships for East students, the Student Assistance Fund, the Angel Packs food initiative, and several other programs that ensure every East student can meet their goals and succeed in their education. 

Come for a fun evening of food and drinks with East teachers and our Principal, Ms.Terita Walker TONIGHT. Space is limited, please RSVP through the QR code!

October Digital PSAT Testing

East High School will offer PSAT/NMSQT testing to students free of charge on October 20, 23, and 24. This is an opportunity for students to get valuable feedback on their readiness for college, have access to scholarship opportunities, and to practice for the SAT. We will not have regular classes on testing days in order to provide an appropriate testing environment.

The test is completely digital this year and will be taken on school issued chromebooks. Click here to learn more about the digital testing experience.

Accommodations that have been approved by the college board are built into the digital testing experience. In order to opt out of approved accommodations, a guardian must email our site assessment leader by Oct 2 jperkin@dpsk12.net.

Parents may opt their student out of testing by following the directions at this link in English or this link in Spanish.

East High School’s Spirit Store is located on the second floor just south of the Main Office.

Operating hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – during lunch  

Friday – during seventh period
